FAQ

Does my auto insurance policy provide coverage when I rent a vehicle?

Yes, for the most part it does. Your policy extends the same liability protection for the rental car that you have operating your own vehicles while within the U.S. or Canada. This protection covers you, your spouse, and resident family members—but not other persons you allow to operate the rental vehicle. Your policy also provides medical payments coverage for you and family members in case you are injured while operating the rental car. As long as you have collision and comprehensive coverage on at least one of your vehicles, the policy provides physical damage coverage for the rental car. Be cautious, however, because there are things you can be held responsible for in the rental agreement that your policy will not cover—things like loss in value to a damaged rental car or downtime rental charges while the car is being repaired.
